Update: Woman who poured boiling water on husband?s private part in Kano over his plans to take a second wife arrested at her hideout in Jigawa state
Kano State Police Command has arrested Aisha Ali, who poured boiling water on her husband’s private part in protest against his plans to take a second wife.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 11, at Fayen-Fayen village, Danbatta local government area of the state. Aisha fled after commiting the offence while Aliyu Ibrahim was rushed to Dambatta General Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed on Monday, that the runaway wife was arrested at her hideout at Babura local government area of Jigawa State and is cooling her feet at police headquarters.

Mr Haruna said that on receipt of the case, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu swiftly raised a team of Operation Puff Adder who tracked down and arrested the suspect from her hideout.

He said the CP had ordered that the case be transferred to State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for discreet investigation and the suspect would soon be charged to court for prosecution.

"The command is using this medium to call on the good and law-abiding citizens of the state to always promptly report any incident to the nearest police station without delay. This will assist in immediate arrest, investigation and diligent prosecution of the culprit, please,” he appealed.

Speaking to newsmen after being paraded at the police command, the suspect said she did not intend to pour the boiling water on her husband, but admitted to have committed the offence.

She asked for forgiveness and expressed support to the husband over his plan to take a second wife.

Electrifying Performance, Janet Jackson thrills Saudis after Nicki Minaj pulled out

Janet Jackson, 50 Cent and Chris Brown were among artists who performed Thursday at a concert in Saudi Arabia that rapper Nicki Minaj pulled out of citing human rights concerns.
A cheering crowd danced to the thumping music at Jeddah World Fest, hosted in the Red Sea city of western Saudi Arabia.
Such scenes, unimaginable just two years ago, reflect how the ultra-conservative Islamic kingdom is easing decades-old restrictions on entertainment.
Minaj — well-known for her provocative, profanity-laced lyrics and skin-baring music videos — pulled out of headlining the concert in a show of solidarity for women’s and gay rights in the ultra-conservative Islamic kingdom.
The cancellation triggered a social media storm, with many fans in the kingdom voicing disappointment and demanding ticket refunds.

The singer insisted on Twitter that her decision was not intended to “disrespect” the Saudi government.
The announcement of her performance had prompted an online backlash from arch-conservatives as the kingdom pursues a contentious liberalisation drive.
Citing unnamed sources, a few Saudi media outlets including the pro-government Okaz newspaper insisted it was the kingdom that cancelled her show, as it went against local “customs and values”.

The country has faced intense international scrutiny over its human rights record since last year’s killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul and the ongoing trial of women activists.
The Human Rights Foundation has urged artists not to perform in the kingdom.

“It’s clear that, after losing Nicki Minaj on the basis of the Saudi regime’s atrocious human rights record and their treatment of women and the gay community, Crown Prince (Mohammed bin Salman) has chosen to spend whatever it takes to give the appearance that things are normal and that this is just another concert,” HRF president Thor Halvorssen said in a statement.

You are responsible for any northerner killed in the South, northern group tells Buhari

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) on Thursday said it will hold President Muhammadu Buhari responsible if any northerner falls victim of the consequences of the concerns they raised about the safety of Fulani herdsmen in the southern part of the country.
Recall that Buhari told Fulani herdsmen to ignore Northern elders’ call to vacate southern Nigeria.
But, in a statement in Abuja, the group’s spokesman, Abdul-Aziz Suleiman said though they welcome the president’s assurance, they were not lost in the fact that the lives of their kinsmen were under threat in the southern part of the country.
“CNG wholeheartedly welcomes the assurance given by Mr. President and his government to protect and guarantee the safety of all Nigerians anywhere they are including the threatened herdsmen in the South.
“We, however, wish to remind Mr. President and the government that Northerners would hold them fully responsible should any one of them fall victim of the consequences of the concerns we raised,” he said.

Suleiman said it was amazed at the denial of southern leaders that they did not declare war on the herders as a result of the killing of the daughter of an Afenifere chieftain by unknown assassins.
Meanwhile, the group in conjunction with the Northern Elders Forum had asked Fulani herdsmen to immediately return to the north as their security was no longer guaranteed in the southern part of the country.

Gov. Ihedioha restores financial autonomy of LGA in Imo State.

…Chairmen of LGA Interim Management Committee urged to run open, transparent and participatory system of Govt in their LGA’s.
Governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha says his adminstration has restored the financial autonomy of the 27 LGA’s in Imo State.
The Governor stated this while addressing Imo Stakeholders at the Maiden State of the State Interactive Stakeholders Meeting held on Thursday 18th July at the Ahiajoku Conference Center Owerri.
The Governor noted that on assumption of office 50 days ago, the State government noticed that there has not been any thing like Local Government election conducted in the state in the past eight years. He maintained that the charade that recently took place in the name of LGA election before the exit of the last adminstration was so patently flawed and characterized with monumental errors that it could not even meet the provisions and requirements of the law.

Governor Ihedioha said, acting on the approval and resolution of the House of Assembly, the State Govt was compelled to suspended the purpotted LGA Chairmen and appoint an Interim Management Cttee to oversee the affairs of the LGA leadership for a period of 6 Months pending inquiry and resolution of legal disputes.
He reiterated his determination and commitment to restore democracy at all levels of government and added that the Interim Management Committees for the 27 Local government Areas during their inauguration were charged with the responsibility of providing development and preparing the local governments for elections by the end of this year.

The Governor said in line with his promise and pledge to run a democratic system of govt, the State Govt have commenced the practice of financial autonomy of the Local Government adminstration in the state.
He urged the Interim Management Cttee Chairmen to immediately commence similar stakeholders meeting in their respective LGA’s so as to intimate their people on how much they get and what projects they intend to do with such funds for the development of their LGA.
He said irrespective of the fact that the new govt is still grappling with the problem Of A Hostile Hand-Over Without Proper Documentation, No Functional Offices, No Vehicles and Equipment, huge debt profile, poor infrastructures/substandard projects done by the past regime, Hostile Environment With Personnels Poised To Sabotage A Smooth Take Off, his govt is still committed to retrieving Imo out from the woods and returning it back to the path of prosperity.

Jonathan decries rising insecurity, calls for unity to address the menace

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that a concerted effort of different leaders and citizens is needed to address the ever increasing insecurity in Nigeria.
Jonathan, who stated this on Thursday, said that it was necessary that leaders in the country always speak out and profer suggestions to problems when challenges arise.
He spoke at the public presentation of a book entittled: ‘Not By Might Nor By Power’, a collection of messages to the world authored by His Grace, the Most Rev Nicholas D. Okoh, Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of Nigeria.
The event where Okoh also launched his Foundation, had in attendance eminent Nigerians like former military Head of State Gen Yakubu Gowon, among others.

Responding to questions at the event Jonathan said, “We must get the country out of insecurity.
“If things are wrong, leaders, including me, we should be talking. And there are a lot of conversations going on to solve this problem.
“Every generation has its problem. In fact, my generation is almost gone. It’s for your generation and we must all come together to solve the problem.
“The security challenges have been with us for long, but we know that whatever is the challenge, we must come together and address it.
“The political leaders in the country and traditional leaders are talking and we must get the country out of insecurity.”

Jonathan had recently lamented the level of insecurity under President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, noting that though there were issues of insecurity under his administration, but that it has got worse under his successor.

INTERNATIONAL news: US shoots down Iranian drone in Strait of Hormuz

US shoots down Iranian drone in Strait of Hormuz, Trump says

US shoots down Iranian drone in Strait of Hormuz, Trump says

A US Navy ship shot down an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz after its operators ignored warnings to stand down, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday, the first military action that Washington has taken against Tehran after a series of incidents in the Gulf where it has vowed to “aggressively” ensure the free passage of vessels.
The drone came within 1,000 metres of the USS Boxer, an amphibious assault ship, and the US took defensive action, Mr Trump said.
“The drone was immediately destroyed,” he said from the White House. “This is the latest of many provocative and hostile actions by Iran against vessels operating in international waters.
“The United States reserves the right to defend our personnel, facilities and interests.”
The clash in one of the busiest waterways for international oil traffic highlighted the risk of conflict between two countries at odds over a wide range of issues. After Mr Trump pulled the United States out of the Iran nuclear deal last year and imposed additional economic sanctions, the Iranians have pushed back on the military front, allegedly sabotaging Saudi and other oil tankers in the Gulf, shooting down a US drone on June 20 and stepping up support for Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Mr Trump ordered a military strike in retaliation to the downing of the drone but called it off, saying that the casualty count would have been a disproportionate reaction.
Adding to the economic pressure on Tehran, the Treasury Department said Thursday it was imposing sanctions on what it called a network of front companies and agents involved in helping Iran buy sensitive materials for its nuclear program. It said the targeted individuals and entities are based in Iran, China and Belgium.
But the downing of the drone marked a new escalation between Washington and Tehran. Chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman confirmed the strike against the drone on Thursday.
“At approximately 10am local time, the amphibious ship USS Boxer was in international waters conducting a planned inbound transit of the Strait of Hormuz,” Mr Hoffman said.
“A fixed-wing unmanned aerial system approached Boxer and closed within a threatening range. The ship took defensive action to ensure the safety of the ship and its crew.”
After the drone was allegedly shot down, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif tweeted the word “reminder”, with a map showing how far the US is from Iran and Gulf waters.
He later told reporters at the United Nations: “We have no information about losing a drone today.”
Iran’s deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi denied on Friday having lost any drone recently and hinted that the US could have downed their own “by mistake.”
Iranian leaders have earlier called on the US to withdraw from the area.
In an apparent response to the Iranian attacks in the Gulf, Britain seized a fully loaded Iranian oil tanker near Gibraltar on July 4, allegedly headed for Syria in violation of sanctions.
Iran furiously branded the seizure “piracy, and one week later armed Iranian boats menaced a British tanker in the Gulf, before they were driven off by a Royal Navy frigate.
Earlier on Thursday, the United States demanded Iran immediately release a vessel it seized in the Gulf.
Iran played down the seizure of the ship, which it said was a small vessel that was smuggling oil.
Iranian state TV aired footage of a vessel called “RIAH.” The Panamanian-flagged oil tanker MT Riah disappeared off trackers in Iranian territorial waters days ago.
US Central Command chief Kenneth McKenzie pledged Thursday to work “aggressively” with partners to ensure freedom of navigation in Gulf waters.

Ihedioha orders forensic audit of LGA accounts

Ihedioha orders forensic audit of LGA accounts

Imo State government has ordered “a comprehensive forensic audit of the local governments’ accounts.” Governor Emeka Ihedioha who gave the order yesterday while addressing a cross-section of stakeholders in Owerri expressed shock “at the level of financial malfeasance in that tier of government.”
He said: “I have set up a committee chaired by Chief Eze Duruiheoma(SAN), charged with the responsibility of carrying out a comprehensive forensic audit of accounts of the 27 local governments in the state.”
While directing the Committee to painstakingly probe the alleged financial malfeasance in the local council areas, Ihedioha also told Imo people that “the last administration operated the local government system in the breach.”
The governor also disclosed that the Rochas Okorocha administration had no fewer than 250 accounts that were largely operated by private individuals and the system lacked transparency and accountability. Ihedioha said that while he was campaigning, he underestimated the degree of fraud and looting perpetrated in the state by the immediate past administration.

His words: “We are barely 50 days old in the office today (yesterday). The investigation has shown that there was consistent looting of public property and last-minute sale of government property at give-away prices to friends, relations and associates of the last administration.”
Governor Ihedioha further disclosed that his administration has “received over N30 billion garnishees order from even suspicious contracts,” promising that the full weight of the law would be visited on all those who pilfered the state funds or property.
…lists achievements
Also yesterday, Governor Ihedioha said that he is prepared to submit the list of his commissioners to the state House of Assembly. “Early next week,” Ihedioha said, “I will forward the names of the commissioner-nominees to the state House of Assembly.”
He took time to explain some of the actions he has taken to remedy the identified wrongs perpetrated by the last administration and reiterated his commitment to the principle of separation of power, due process and rule of law.

The governor also said, among other things, that on the economic front, he had “maximised accessing of resources from intervention funds of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN; Bank of Industry, BoI; and Development Bank of Nigeria, DBN, to stimulate small and medium-scale enterprises and create employment; “I have also maximised the attraction of private sector investment (local direct investment and foreign direct investment) to stimulate economic growth, employment and poverty reduction while expanding the IGR base through relevant taxes and fees.
“On water supply, pipe-borne water became a complete luxury as we couldn’t find functional tap water anywhere in the state. The Imo State Water Authority has undergone some restructuring and is now equipped to begin putting in place, the required systems for pipe-borne water provision.
“In a month, some parts of Owerri will certainly have access to water. “Previously, public expenditure was not backed by budgets. Today, the budget formulation will be participatory.”

…as INC tasks Ihedioha on herdsmen threats
Meanwhile, the leadership of Igbo National Council, INC, led by Chilos Godsent, yesterday, called on Governor Ihedioha to tackle the issue of herdsmen intimidation and invasion of farmlands in some communities in the state.
One of those who spoke to newsmen in Owerri, adding that Ihedioha should declare their activities in the state illegal. INC also called on the state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, to parade herdsmen found destroying people’s farms. According to Godsent, “the Igbo National Council, INC, is very saddened with the nefarious activities of the herdsmen in many communities in Imo State since the controversial RUGA settlement and National Livestock Transformational Plan of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government were mooted.
“We have noted the security implications of the illegal activities of these herdsmen in these communities and we are very shocked that the governor of Imo State has kept silence in the face of all these rampaging herdsmen in Imo State.”

National Handwash Challenge: Funke Akindele is promoting Hygiene through the Dettol Clean Naija’s “National Handwash Challenge”

Funke Akindele is promoting Hygiene through the Dettol Clean Naija’s “National Handwash Challenge”

Funke Akindele was earlier today hosted on the popular Silverbird TV breakfast show, ‘Today on STV’, where she discussed her career, motherhood and her CSR work on promoting hygiene and good health in Nigeria through Dettol’s Clean Naija Initiative. The Jenifa star also spoke on the need for better general health practices including daily hand hygiene as this singular act can prevent the transmission of illnesses like diarrhea, making families and communities healthier and happier.
The Clean Naija initiative, which was created to achieve a cleaner nation through the continuous habit of proper handwashing and personal hygiene, has so far been achieving its mandate, through mass awareness, social education and provision of infrastructure towards proper hand hygiene habits.
When asked what her partnership with Dettol means for Nigerians, Funke Akindele said, “Our goal is to get 20 million clean hands by the end of year 2020, and as such, I’d personally champion the promotion of proper personal hygiene in Nigeria. This is possible because, Dettol has products such as the antiseptic liquid, the anti-bacterial soap and hand sanitizer which will be instrumental to the achievement of our mandate.”
She rounded up her time on the show by announcing the start of the National Handwash Challenge which is a social campaign that will help raise the consciousness of Handwashing amongst active Nigerians.
To get the conversation going, she asked people to join the challenge by taking a picture or video whilst washing their hands, after which they’d post it on social media, tag @DettolNigeria, and @Cleannaijang, and also tag 5 of their friends to do the same using the hashtag #DettolCleanNaija and #NationalHandwashChallenge.

'Southwest wants no war' - Ooni of Ife says after visit to President Buhari

'Southwest wants no war' - Ooni of Ife says after visit to President Buhari (Photos)

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, reflected on the security situation in the country and urged political leaders against blowing issues out of proportion. He said the Southwest would not want to experience any war, warning that the drumbeats of war “is sounding loud across the country”.

He spoke at the State House, Abuja, after meeting with President Buhari. He told reporters that he was at the State House for talks with the President on behalf of traditional rulers on how to improve the security situation.

The Ooni said: “How to improve security. I came to speak on behalf of other traditional rulers. Before I came here, I discussed with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who has been there for close to 50 years and we cannot take away such a very massive experience in terms of knowing the structure of Nigeria. And also by virtue of that, Alaafin is in constant touch with Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona and very much; we are all on the same page.

“So, I’m here and I had a discussion that is very fruitful with Mr President about what we all know the security situation in the country. We made him to know that the issue at hand in the Southwest is real – the issue of insecurity.

“We live in the remote and rural areas of the southwestern part of the country, most of those bushes and those forests are being occupied by strange people and we have decided to take it upon ourselves to try as much as possible to work with the government to fish them out.
“Why I’m here again is, everybody is beating the war drum; we don’t want war; who can stand war? We want something better for our youths. Everybody is beating the drum of war; we don’t want war; Who can stand war? We want something better for our youths.
“We should better use them for something good other than shouting war and anarchy. We don’t want that. We told the President that and he is on the same page with us. Politicians should be careful not to throw things out of proportion. We should make sure things are right. Mr. President has actually given good directives to security chiefs, especially the IG (Inspector-General); they will visit each and every traditional ruler’s palaces that are very sensitive in Southwest with immediate effect, he is going to give that directive.
“He said that everything must be done to put all security agencies to good use and work with the locals to separate the bad eggs.  We need to work very closely with them and every other security agencies in the country, we will put them to use now; it is very important to us to put them to use and work with the locals; it is very important so that we can separate the corn from the chaff.

APC Chairman Hon. Jotham Amos and Hon. Wilson Dauyegha in physical fight over primaries (video)
Ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled to hold in Bayelsa State on November 16, a video of Bayelsa State lawmaker, Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha in physical fight with the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in the state, Hon. Jothan Amos has surfaced.

The fight between the state's APC Chairman and Dauyegha, a known political ally of the immediate past Minister of State for Agriculture, Heineken Lokpobiri, occurred just after the lawmaker representing Ekeremor Constituency II in the Bayelsa state House of Assembly tore a paper he was given to sign.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the fight was centered on the mode of party gubernatorial primary. While Lokpobiri is pushing for an indirect primary, the party chairman seems to have adopted the direct primary option.  Hon Dauyegha was heard saying in the viral video “What kind of chairman are you? You are a stupid chairman. I’ll deal with you.”

Head of the family, Nana Dr Kusi Appiah Osraman in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM saidd, “Police in the Upper East Region is being economical with the truth in the circumstances that led to the death of his nephew and suspects that they have a hand in the matter”.

Italian police arrest 19 suspected members of a Nigerian mob in major crackdown
Italian police confirm that they have arrested 19 suspected members of a Nigerian mob, including the leaders of a clan, called MAPHITE, which forged alliances with other mafias and violently punished anyone who rebelled.

In an operation dubbed “Burning Flame”, coordinated by police in Bologna and Turin, over 300 officers carried out arrests and searches in nine cities across northern Italy from Bergamo to Modena, Parma and Ravenna.

A two-year probe aided significantly by a man on the inside who fed details to investigators — “has allowed us to destroy much of what, within the Nigerian community, is known as the ‘MAPHITE’ cult,” police said in a statement. It said the acronym stood for Maximum Academic Performance Highly Intellectuals Train Executioner.
“Among those arrested were those who held a leading role within the criminal organisation. Those who decided on the new initiations, who ran the prostitution rings, who dominated by force the other criminal organisations, who ran the drug trade in the city squares,” it said.
Fifty other suspects were under investigation, it added.  Anti-immigrant Interior Minister Matteo Salvini hailed the bust. “Maxi-operation against the Nigerian mafia, so much for those who denied its existence. Thanks to the police and investigators. We don’t need this kind of immigration. Ports closed, jails open!,” he tweeted.

Police said the Nigerian mob used “urban guerrilla warfare which continued for days at a time” to maintain territorial control.  The ‘cult’ was just one of a series of foreign organised crime groups which had adopted Italian mafia codes, police said.

Maphite was founded back in the 1980s along with other Nigerian gangs such as the Black Axe and the Vikings before developing into a full-blown organised crime group in the 1990s, police said.

Nigerian Prof, Nwagbara who was arrested for condemning Ghana treatment of Nigerians, speaks on his ordeal
Professor Augustine Nwagbara has narrated the ordeal he suffered in the hands of Ghanaians when he had a faceoff with the Ghanaian authorities, their media and security agencies last month.

Recall that Nwagbara, a professor of English, had a fallout with the Ghana authorities after a video of him criticising the government over the manner in which Nigerians are being treated in their country, went viral.

Narrating his ordeal when he paid a courtesy visit on the Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja yesterday July 18th, Nwagbara said he went through harsh treatment from the University authorities in Ghana as he was subjected to series of interrogations by the University of Education, Winniba, Ghana.

“They said I was sacked, then dismissed, which was another wrong word to use, as you cannot dismiss some body on sabbatical in your country. As I speak with you , I have not received any letter of sack or dismissal whereas various factions of the letters are already in circulation in Ghana and on social media” the don said.

He applauded the Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana, Ambassador Olufemi Abikoye for ensuring his safety throughout the period he was being attacked.
“But for him, I probably would have been a dead man”, Professor Nwagbara said

Responding, Abike Dabiri-Erewa commended him for speaking up for Nigerians

“We are proud of you as one of our best brains. You are an asset to your country. Not surprising that you’ve received offers from other Universities to complete your sabbatical before returning to the University of Lagos” she said
According to Dabiri-Erewa, over 1000 Nigerians have been deported in controversial circumstances by Ghanaian authorities in the last two years.
“Between January and June 2019, 509 Nigerians were forcefully deported while 527 Nigerians got deported in 2018. We are not going to tolerate any country treating Nigerians shabbily. Our stand is that if a Nigerian commits a crime, other Nigerians should not suffer for that” she said

Nobody had hatred for Fulani herdsmen until some of them started killing people- CAN president

Nobody had hatred for Fulani herdsmen until some of them started killing people- CAN president
Reverend Samson Ayokunle, the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said that the ''hatred'' the Fulani herdsmen suffer now from Nigerians began when some elements in their group became violent and started killing people.

Ayokunle said this when he spoke at a press conference organised by the Christian body in Abuja on Thursday July 18th. According to Ayokunle, prior to this present times, herdsmen lived peacefully in members of other communities they took their cattle to graze in and even went as far as marrying in some of these communities. He noted that people began to see them in a different light when they started killing ''innocent'' people. The clergyman stated that the only way herdsmen can regain the trust Nigerians had for them is to call themselves to order and stop being violent and killing people.

“If there was any enemy for any Fulani man, the Fulani man created the enemy for himself. They have been living peacefully for many years in our various communities, till the killing issues started. In those days, our children married them, they married our children, but when they became too violent and started carrying AK-47, killing people, what type of play is that? That’s a dangerous play.
We can no longer think we are friends with that type of play. It’s too dangerous. So let them call their people to order and ensure that they remove the enmity they have created around an average Fulani person.” he said
