Jonathan decries rising insecurity, calls for unity to address the menace
Former
President Goodluck Jonathan has said that a concerted effort of
different leaders and citizens is needed to address the ever increasing
insecurity in Nigeria.
Jonathan,
who stated this on Thursday, said that it was necessary that leaders in
the country always speak out and profer suggestions to problems when
challenges arise.
He
spoke at the public presentation of a book entittled: ‘Not By Might Nor
By Power’, a collection of messages to the world authored by His Grace,
the Most Rev Nicholas D. Okoh, Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of
Nigeria.
The
event where Okoh also launched his Foundation, had in attendance
eminent Nigerians like former military Head of State Gen Yakubu Gowon,
among others.
Responding to questions at the event Jonathan said, “We must get the country out of insecurity.
“If
things are wrong, leaders, including me, we should be talking. And
there are a lot of conversations going on to solve this problem.
“Every
generation has its problem. In fact, my generation is almost gone. It’s
for your generation and we must all come together to solve the problem.
“The
security challenges have been with us for long, but we know that
whatever is the challenge, we must come together and address it.
“The political leaders in the country and traditional leaders are talking and we must get the country out of insecurity.”
Jonathan
had recently lamented the level of insecurity under President Muhammadu
Buhari’s government, noting that though there were issues of insecurity
under his administration, but that it has got worse under his
successor.
